Dan grew up in San Antonio, graduated from Alamo Heights High School and received a BBS with a major in Accounting from The University of Texas at Austin. He has worked in the Construction and related industries as an analyst, Controller, Chief Financial Officer and was a Partner in a Construction Supply business. He has negotiated million dollar plus contracts and numerous sales and commercial building lease contracts. His wife Dawn is a labor attorney with The Gardner Law Firm and they have two large dogs, Shelby and Gita.

            I recently moved to San Antonio from West Palm Beach, Florida, and began house hunting on my own. Because I had just started a new, full-time job, the process quickly became frustrating due to lack of time in my schedule. Upon the recommendation of a professional associate, I hired Mr. Dan Finlayson to help me in my search.

            Having worked with realtors in prior home purchases, I had a very low expectation of the amount of effort and attention to detail I could expect. I thought that I would have to almost do everything myself.

            So, I was pleasantly surprised when Mr. Finlayson turned out to be the “one in a million” exception to my previous realtor experiences!

            He carefully listened to: what type of home I wanted, what type of neighborhood I wanted to live in safely, what my budget was, what my lifestyle was, what type of physical surrounding I could maintain, and my preferences for commuting to my job.

            He then identified homes for sale and set up an automatic e-mail system to deliver them and their photos to me. For about one week, I’d pick out the ones I liked, print out a map, and drive by them after work. Then I told him which ones I liked, and he set up viewing appointments. Within a very short time period we found The House and entered into negotiations.

            Mr. Finlayson handled every aspect of the negotiations and offer as if the deal was his own home – he was present at every step of the way, including the inspections, reviewing documents, recommending financial services, and constantly double-checking that I understood every detail of putting my deal together. I had quite a few questions, and he was able to answer all of them accurately.

            As with any real estate purchase or sale, there are unforeseen glitches. My purchase was no exception, right down to two hours before closing, and I was glad to have Mr. Finlayson on my side.  In fact, other folks on the project were also glad to have him involved.
